For over twenty years, the Processing Foundation has been advancing creative technology through pioneering tools like Processing and p5.js. As a non-profit organization, we are committed to supporting the development and dissemination of free and open-source software that facilitates creative learning and critical engagement through coding. Our projects are used in K-12 education, higher education, and community-based initiatives and are powered by a vibrant, diverse community of contributors, educators, artists, and students.

The Processing Foundation Internship Program invites individuals passionate about technology, accessibility, and assistive tools to apply. The ideal candidates will approach technology through a critical lens and share our commitment to making digital tools more inclusive and accessible to all. Archival Internship

Processing and p5.js have played a key role in media art and design history. The applications of these tools are vast, ranging from generative art and data visualization to games, digital fabrication, kinetic sculptures, and live performances. As an Archival Intern, you will research, collect, and organize projects made with Processing and p5.js to enhance the Processing Foundation archive.

You will receive one-on-one mentorship and be part of a supportive, inclusive community, allowing you to deepen your understanding of media art history, digital archiving, and curatorial approaches in emerging mediums.

Key Responsibilities

As an Archival Intern, you will:

  • Review and organize the existing Processing Foundation archive.
  • Design surveys and solicit project submissions from artists and designers.
  • Reach out to artists and designers using p5.js and Processing.
  • Document interactive projects in high quality.
  • Participate in regular meetings with your mentor and team to receive feedback and refine your skills.

Terms and Eligibility

  • The Archival Internship typically runs from the beginning of February to the end of April.
  • All internship positions are paid at $22 per hour.
  • All internship roles are entirely remote. A strong enthusiasm and effective communication skills are essential for success in a remote setting.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age.

Can I receive college credit for the internship I apply for?

We accept applications from those interning for college credit. The interns are responsible for communicating academic requirements in your application.

Can I apply as an OPT visa holder?

Regrettably, we currently cannot hire an intern on an OPT visa.
