FAQs
Is this Professional Development right for me?
Art + Code is designed for 6-12 educators who teach (or want to teach) through the arts. Whether you lead a visual arts classroom, integrate media or design, or support creative learning across subjects, this PD will help you bring coding into your practice in ways that feel authentic and doable. It’s beginner-friendly and especially supportive for teachers who have never coded before.
You’ll get the most out of this program if you’re:
- Curious about creative coding and open to learning through making
- Interested in connecting art, design, and technology
- Excited to share projects and ideas with a supportive educator community
It may not be the best fit if you’re looking for advanced computer-science training (e.g., robotics, physical computing, or AP-level programming).
Do I need to know how to code before joining?
No experience required. The PD starts from the ground up and models how to introduce code in accessible, visual ways using p5.js.
I teach traditional art; can this still work for me?
Absolutely. Many participants teach drawing, painting, ceramics, or photography and use Art + Code to layer digital processes into their existing lessons. The focus is on expanding creative possibilities, not replacing traditional artmaking.
What will I create or take away?
By the end of the PD, you’ll design a classroom-ready lesson, unit, or project that blends art and code in a way that fits your teaching context and standards. You’ll leave with adaptable resources, example projects, and confidence to guide students through their own creative coding explorations.
Who can participate?
Art + Code is built for 6-12 educators, teaching artists, and program leaders working in or alongside schools. University-level faculty or CS specialists are welcome to observe but should know the focus is on classroom strategies for 6-12 arts integration.
